Who is Brad Avakian?
He’s Oregon’s Commissioner [Commissar] of Labor who seems to have a vendetta against an Oregon citizen, Melissa Klein. Mrs. Klein has committed a thought crime by refusing to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple. Mr. Avakian, as Oregon’s chief thought crime investigator and enforcer… er… Commissioner of Labor, decided to fine Mrs. Klein $135,000 for causing the happy couple so much stress. Mrs. Klein, however, does not get to sue for the much greater stress of having her life’s work wiped out. Oh, and Avakian has tried to hang Mrs. Klein and her husband Aaron with a gag order to not speak about the case or his vendetta against her.
Does this phrase from the Declaration of Independence strike a chord? — “He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.” There are some other applicable bits as well.
This is a case of a state office at war with the people of the state. This is a man abusing his office and power. This is tyranny.
There’s also a possibility that Avakian was working with a politically-allied gay activist group to target a small Christian-run bakery and crush it for maximum public exposure and political effect. That would seem to possibly indicate a RICO-style prosecution could be launched, though I do not know if Oregon has a state RICO statute (and it would not likely ever pursue such a thing against a Democrat politician).
Having said that, I am a firm believer in the Constitution and state’s rights therefore, it is the right of the state of Oregon, as far as I’m concerned, to turn its state into a living Hell, assuming it follows its own state constitution. Let it suffer the consequence of this misgovernment, economically and politically. I encourage the Kleins to leave the state and bake cakes elsewhere. When the state of Oregon has sunk into the mud, then the people may tar and feather, at the very least, Brad Avakian.
