Our Borg Left

Can there be any doubt that anything that the left touches becomes corrupted.

Here is a story about the nominally nonpartisan Committee to Protect Journalists. Now it has come out with a statement that Donald Trump is an unprecedented threat to press freedom though it insists that it’s not taking sides in the upcoming election. They said that with a straight face.

Seriously.

Admittedly any group of journalists is likely to be left-leaning and it is usually just a matter of time before it removes any pretense and just goes whole-hog into auxiliary service of the Democratic Party.

Interestingly, Hillary Clinton has her own plans to limit press freedoms. She wants to outlaw stories, movies, whatever, that paint politicians in a bad light.

CPJ seems to have missed that. Probably because most of their members decided not to report negative stories about Hillary Clinton.

And then there’s this piece about our wonderful public education system, which was drafted into service of the Democratic Party a long time ago.

I guess the surprising thing about this “letter” drafted by several “Teachers of the Year” is that they hadn’t done this before.

They certainly don’t hold back, pretty much equating Trump with the most heinous villains in history.

They also trot out lots of perfect moppet anecdotes of fear with tots crying on cue, “Mr. Supersmawt teacher, why does that scawwy Donald Twump want to huwt me?”

Our humble teachers are taking this extraordinary step… to save the children (from the Abominable Trumble).

Remember back during the first Clinton interregnum when so much of their calumny (especially at the EPA) was committed “for the children.”

Of course all of this couched in the insufferability that the conceited teaching profession has polished to a high sheen. These people think a lot of themselves and little of anyone who thinks differently (i.e. isn’t a liberal). To think, these people are paid by the taxpayer that these teachers so loathe.

The public education system needs to be torn down, sown with salt and its braying donkey membership put to digging ditches or handing out sippy straws and butt pillows at the old folks home… er… retirement community – actual, productive jobs rather than the well-compensated, publicly-funded liberal propagandameisters that they are now.

I’m not the first to note that the left ruins everything it touches and turns those things into tools of liberal propaganda, coercion, cultural and political warfare. Anything that resists is targeted for destruction.

Like the Borg, you will be assimilated or destroyed. There is no refuge from them.

Advertisements

Riddle Me This — BuzzFeed Discrimination Edition

So now the pop entertainment website BuzzFeed will follow in the footsteps of Google in discriminating between clients (or prospective clients) based on “beliefs.” BuzzFeed has announced it will refuse ads from the Republican party because of Donald Trump. It may have stepped away from $1.3 million of ads that the party may have committed to.

But apparently BuzzFeed will accept Democrat ads.

BuzzFeed founder and CEO Jonah Paretti explained, “The Trump campaign is directly opposed to the freedoms of our employees in the United States and around the world and in some cases, such as his proposed ban on international travel for Muslims, would make it impossible for our employees to do their jobs.” Well, that wasn’t what Trump said, Trump was talking about immigration, especially illegal immigration, not Muslim international travel. A rather ill-informed response by the supposed head of a news website that wants to be taken seriously.

Paretti added, “We don’t run cigarette ads because they are hazardous to our health, and we won’t accept Trump ads for the exact same reason ” Okay, that’s just silly. But it gives you an insight into the mind of the liberal and BuzzFeed that is, if anything, a pack of liberal media jackals. Liberals view anything nonliberal, insufficiently liberal or anti-liberal as needing to be shutdown. And they will shut it down when they can.

BuzzFeed is privately held but a number of its owner/investors have public arms. They need to be pressured, ahem, NBCUniversal. I wonder if all the private equity investors are cool with BuzzFeed possibly walking away from $1.3 million and likely souring the milk for millions of dollars more while Paretti just insulted a large portion of the U.S. population?

Having said that, I actually feel that BuzzFeed is within its to choose what ads to run. But then I also think that bakers and florists and photographers can choose who they’ll provide services to.

Yet, somehow, I don’t think BuzzFeed, always eagerly polishing its liberal bonafides, would grant the same right of discrimination to, say, Masterpiece Cakes or Arlene’s Flowers or the other small businesses that have found themselves under the boot of the government when they exercised a right that BuzzFeed just claimed. Like Google, I suspect the answer from BuzzFeed is “Rights for me but not for thee.”

Does anyone think the Dept. of Justice will be paying a visit to BuzzFeed? That’ll be the day.

Democrat Brown Shirts

We’ve now seen violence committed outside of political rallies for Donald Trump in California several times. No one disagrees that the instigators are hardcore leftists (apparently with pro-Mexican Aztlan ‘Reconquista’ types who are also hard left).

Interestingly, the American news media seems only mildly interested in this and have yet to ask Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders whether they condemn this behavior.

Of course had this been “Republicans” protesting or “Tea Party” members or anyone who could possibly be associated with either group, the news media would be covering this “assault on democracy” 24/7 and the media along with the Democratic party would be demanding that every Republican denounce the thugs. It wouldn’t be beyond the Pale that some Democrats would be offering legislation to shut such protests down.

Remember the famous “Brooks Brothers ‘Riot’” in Florida?

But since it is Democrats and their sympathizers, the violent protesting is okay, much in the way that union violence against nonunion workers, managerial employees and company property is considered acceptable. In fact, when it comes to leftists and protesting, it’s seen as something natural, even noble.

Make no mistake, this type of authoritarian, fascist, brown shirt behavior is just an inkling of what will come as the Democratic party moves leftward. Those people tolerate no dissent.

Facebook to Face the Music

Of course Facebook has been downplaying and demoting conservative “trends.” How is this really news?

All the big internet operations do it. It would be impossible to spend any time on a Yahoo site or put up with MSN or Verizon “news” selections while you check email without beginning to wonder if you haven’t accidentally wandered over to Mother Jones, Huff Po or the Democratic Party page. The news is always bad for Republicans or conservatives; liberal propaganda like “War on women,” “Rape Epidemic,” “hottest month, year in history” or some such deception, bad businesses, racist cops or some put-upon minority are the grist. Also diet, health and environmental scare stories are popular fodder as well. Then there are endless celebrity stories, “women’s” stories and food news too. Much of it is similar to the mindless, gossipy female-oriented fluff that populates TV morning shows but a significant portion is spun leftism. A conservative will rarely find anything to hearten them.

Having said that, I also add that Facebook is a private business. It can filter news and stories however it wants. People need to be aware that it is run by liberals and its content is selected by liberals, generally for other liberals (and to influence weak-minded independents). They aren’t going to hire conservatives. They don’t think much of you (though they will take your money).

HINT-HINT — BIG BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY HERE FOR A FACEBOOK IMITATOR WITH A DIFFERENT SPIN!

The best way to counter this behavior is to walk away. Don’t reward liberals with your business.

I’ll add that I’m most certainly against Facebook being called up to Capitol Hill by Sen. John Thune to explain itself (even if it is publicly lying) . Facebook is a private company, it does not have to adhere to the First Amendment. It should not have to answer to Congress or any part of the federal government.

Publicly expose them for the libtards they are but leave them alone beyond that.

More Free Stuff!

This little item popped up last week, somewhat under the radar — a free Internet (for some people — AKA regular Democrat voters) proposal from the modern Santa Claus, the Obama White House and its puppet, the Federal Communications Commission.

As I’ve been telling people for some time, the “free phone” “entitlement” would morph into free Internet and here we see the first step. This is also related to the designation of the Internet and related entities as “Title II,” i.e. a utility that can be heavily regulated by government. Liberals will not rest until the Internet is part of the government’s portfolio and under its oversight and control. Eventually there will be a Dept. of Communication with a cabinet-level secretary. Bank on it.

Unless it is stopped.

The acorn of this mighty oak was a Reagan-era program. Reagan had a soft spot for Social Security and old folks (he philosophically knew better but couldn’t resist the sad stories). His idea was that no old person would be trapped without some kind of basic phone service, at least for emergencies. Immediately an income rider was attached so that “the poor,” no matter their age, would also be eligible. You knew then that it would be expanded and expanded. And so it was, slowly at first. Then, a few decades letter, it exploded with the Obamaphone program for getting wireless phones to those who might not have them. And now Internet “access” is being folded in, because, well, it’s just not “fair” that some people have Internet and some don’t.

I’m going to say something that has become controversial as liberalism has become increasingly more dominant in our culture. There needs to be a penalty for being poor. There needs to be some impetus, reason, encouragement for people to make themselves unpoor.

But the left likes people to be poor. It likes them to become dependent upon the government — for a few things at first, but increasingly more and more of the creature comforts. After awhile — a few years, a few generations they don’t mind being poor. It’s not so bad to be poor because everyone has enough to eat (except when it’s time to make hay about ‘hunger); everybody has shelter (other than those voluntarily homeless or mentally disturbed and when it comes time to make hay about ‘homelessness’); everybody is getting health care (except when it comes time make hay about ‘health care’); everybody has educational opportunities and increasingly a free or heavily subsidized college (except when it time to make hay about ‘education’); and so on.

In many ways they aren’t really poor — certainly in not any traditional and historical sense. Nor are they poor in any comparison to the actual poor in the rest of the world. Most of our “poor” would rate as middle class in most parts of the globe.

They have enough to get by but certainly not enough to actually become no longer dependent upon the government. After a few generations of this, people no longer are capable of taking care of themselves. And why should they, they reason — that’s what the government is for! Big Daddy/Big Mommy/Big Sister/Big Brother and Big Baby.

And they don’t have to pay a nickle for any of it because that wouldn’t be “fair” and they are poor!

Witness life in any Democrat-controlled city. Everything that comes out of the mouths of the local poor is “gimme” and their look is to the government (and the politicians are happy to abide). In their minds the government provides all. They are married to the government. The concept of taking care of themselves or looking to building a private sector is mostly foreign to them. In the rare occasions when it is addressed it is treated with contempt or denounced by politicoes and “stakeholding” activists as a conspiracy by Republicans, conservatives, corporations, enslavers to control them. Those “stakeholders” have a stake in keeping the poor poor.

The poor become completely incapable of understanding that they have already sold their souls to a master — the Democratic Party and its various flying monkey organizations.

I Love Stacey Dash

Concerning the liberal cause du jour, not an acceptable amount of “black/African-American” people nominated for the Oscars, Stacey Dash tells it like it is. “I think it’s ludicrous. We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration.

Dash has been staking out a position of pure color-blindedness and I applaud her for that. She even went so far as to insist on the elimination of racially-oriented television network BET and the odious Black History Month.

Of course BET — Black Entertainment Television — responded but did they do it civilly?

Did they say something along the line of, “We disagree with her but she has her opinion and we have ours. We feel that BET makes programming that serves an underserved market. We’re more nimble than bigger producers and are able to focus on a niche market just like National Geographic, Lifetime and ESPN do. No program producer can be all things to all people. Bob Johnson’s millions show that we’re doing a good job at serving our viewers. We’re for more TV choices for everyone. We hope Ms. Dash agrees with us.”

I’m a fairly libertarian fellow and would have bought that. I’m not for censorship or taking away entertainment choices that people want and will pay for. BET’s “Criminals at Work” or “Real Husbands of Hollywood” or awards shows (lots of awards shows) aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but that’s what freedom and all those channels on your cable TV guide are for. You couldn’t pay me to watch a reality TV show but a lot of people love them.

But BET couldn’t do that. It’s a leftist-run operation (they hate Donald Trump too). They showed their cleverness by riffing on “Clueless,” playing on the name of the movie for which Dash made her name.

Somehow I doubt BET execs would insult “Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone in that way.

Isn’t making fun of a woman’s intelligence considered sexist?

But why worry about analogy purity when you’re dishing out the beatdown? Snark rules! Face! Dash!

And BET was not the only one. Pretty much every media outlet or attention urchin had to lob in their insults of Dash (demonstrating, once again, the ‘show trial’ mentality of the Media-Liberal Complex).

That’s what the left is all about these days — mindless conformity, insults, playground-level bullying, getting people to cry “uncle” or say that the bully is “great” (remember that chestnut from fourth grade?). I bet the geniuses at BET’s offices were calling Dash a “poopiehead’ as well.

But if we’re playing childish name-calling games, it can go both ways. Since BET focuses on programming aimed at people of a certain color, it must be racist. So BET=Racism.

Using Sports for Propaganda

I caught part of Purdue’s drubbing of Rutgers in basketball on Martin Luther King Day on the Big Ten Network. One of the “traditional” practices of MLK Day sports events is the patronizing exercise of reciting uplifting hagiographies of famous black people during breaks.

It may have been Kevin Kugler that was calling the game when the play-by-play man went into the story of Paul Robeson, a Rutgers alum. Not surprisingly he listed Robeson’s extraordinary talents — athlete, scholar, actor, singer and activist.

Then he went into a sugar-coating of Robeson’s political activities, described simply as “taking an interest in civil rights” that was brutally curtailed by blacklisting in the “McCarthy era.”

It’s a little bit more complicated than that. Robeson had mental problems, which manifested themselves later in life. That he had been treated occasionally badly early in life was not questionable but Robeson took everything very personally and was incapable of overcoming confrontations or slights. Combining a hefty personal arrogance and inability to compromise Robeson ping-ponged around intellectually and geographically for years, eventually developing a hatred for the United States and naive love for Marxism. The Soviet Union and its minions (notably East Germany) used him like a mason uses a trowel. He didn’t resist and became marginalized and insignificant, even to many left-leaning Americans. It was a sad waste of great talents.

Robeson’s life is too complicated to be condensed into a 60-second squib written by a PR flack at an American university. It’s sad that viewers were treated to disinformation, with the predictable attack on the “McCarthy era” and hagiographic treatment of someone who was no angel.
