And This Guy Goes to Jail?

The Democrats and the media (one and the same) claimed another pair of Republican scalps with the conviction of former Chris Christie aides Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly concerning traffic on a New Jersey bridge. Somehow Baroni and Kelly engineered for the New Jersey transpo people to realign some lanes on the bridge to cause chaos in retaliation for the local mayor’s refusal to endorse Christie’s run for governor.

Yes, monkey with traffic lanes — you know, kind of like what Democrat politicians do all the time when they want to cause chaos to press for more highway funds. “If we only had more (Federal) money we could fix these problems!”

But these were Republicans so the book was tossed at them.

However, my big point is that these two got actual jail time (he two years and she 18 months) for what was a messy political tug of war. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Crime Crew are still free despite committing several high crime felonies, notably the whole email server setup and then lying about it and then destroying evidence and then dissembling to investigators, etc…

Meanwhile, we have a steady state of leakage of classified (anti-Trump) information by Obama holdovers in the government and no one, at least in the Democratic Party or the media, benefiting from these leaks, is demanding investigations and then some hides in jail.

Then we get the Evelyn Farkas revelations that she was an (anti-Trump) information wrangler in the later days of the Obama administration. She had been a deputy assistant secretary of defense in the Obama administration (Oy!) until she left to join the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2015. So, after Hill was put down, Farkas (and others) apparently spent the interlude before Trump was inaugurated collecting and pushing dissemination of negative Trump info throughout Capitol Hill (and the media). Much, if not all of this information, was classified. Oddly, she was apparently, technically, unemployed at the time, yet had quite a bit of access to various intelligence agencies.

It’s wholly possible, and unclear from her MSNBC interview, that she may have been dealing in this classified information before the election and while still employed by the Clinton campaign. Imagine if this had been a Republican…

Farkas actually seems quite proud of what she did and completely oblivious that she looks to be confessing to a series of felonies and outlining a major Washington-based felony conspiracy that sounds like something out of a movie.

She perfectly characterizes the modern liberal’s belief that they are just so great, and their cause so pure that mere laws do not apply to them.

And they are all scot free…

Drain the Swamp

One of the most important things that President Trump can do to help America, return it to greatness and assure that it stays that way is to “drain the swamp.”

That is, Trump needs to take on what even Ronald Reagan (much less the Bushes) feared, the vast leftwing conspiracy — academia, bureaucracy, corporations, entertainment, media and NGOs.

I’m going to keep this one brief since I’ll be delving into this in depth.

Trump can aide his reelection (yes, it is never too early to start preparing) or the election of Mike Pence as his successor, with several moves.

Push voter ID. For some reason voter ID seems to depress Democratic turnout. Gosh, I wonder why.

Deport en masse illegal immigrants currently in the prison system or with records. Other illegal immigrants don’t have to be hunted down and corralled. Many will leave if they see simple enforcement of immigration laws. Give a small percentage of those who have behaved themselves a chance to return, legally. Eliminate benefits for those who are here illegally. Move against “sanctuary cities” at the federal funding level. I’m all for states rights but those do not encompass immigration policy. Such a move will impact Democrat voting levels.

And, most importantly, start shrinking the size of the federal Leviathan. Set a number, say 5 or 10% per year.

Many of those workers will leave the Washington area and most will concentrate in other liberal areas. Besides weakening the federal government and clipping its mischievousness, it might return Virginia to its red state status. It was the mushrooming of the government over the last two decades which turned once red Fairfax County into a blue monstrosity which overwhelms the rest of the state. Maryland and D.C. cannot be recovered.

On the larger scale, smaller federal employee numbers also drain the Democratic Party of financial resources and the ability to project party power and harass political opponents. So along with saving taxpayers money, freeing them from the government thumb, this is a win-win. There’s simply no downside to targeted shrinking of the federal government.

Free the Capacitors!

This story is related to the Starz story below.

Again, like Starz, it might seem inconsequential to your life.

But it’s not.

I know a little bit about these “capacitors” whose price was supposedly rigged. This is a ridiculous charge. It might be true but who cares? These electrical components cost pennies! They contribute a tiny fraction to the price of consumer electronics.

These aren’t specialized military or aerospace components which might cost a lot. These are off-the-shelf technology. These electrical components cost pennies! They contribute a tiny fraction to the price of consumer electronics.

Isn’t the usual complaint not that electronics are expensive but that they are ridiculously cheap? Part of that reason is the dirt-cheap electronic subassemblies made up of bargain basement parts like capacitors. Nobody’s being ripped off or forced to buy overpriced parts. These capacitors can be bought by the truckloads and there’s no shortage of makers. They are not anywhere close to being the most expensive part in any electronic device.

The companies pleaded guilty to save themselves the legal costs of fighting this (much like most of us will ‘plead guilty’ to a simple speeding or parking ticket to save ourselves the trouble of paying a lawyer or taking off from work to fight the ticket.

The charges were pursued by the Dept. of Justice’s San Francisco office so you can bet that some Silicon Valley companies pushed DOJ on this. Dig down and you might find those companies are going to cut a deal with the capacitor manufacturers to cut a fraction of a penny off the next load of capacitors.Oh, and guaranteed they contribute to the Democrat party.

Whatever, this is a waste of taxpayer dollars, a sign that government is way too big, micromanaging too many things it has no business overseeing and that the DOJ has too much time on its hands and too many people.

Starz Lobbies Up

This is a story that most people might simply shrug their shoulders and say, “So what?”

But there really is more to it.

Starz is a cable channel (actually several channels) that focuses on movies but is increasingly, like its competitors such as HBO and Showtime, developing limited-run series.

So why would a cable subscription TV channel hire a politically-connected (and expensive) Washington, D.C. lobbying firm, the Glover Park Group?

Good question. An obvious answer would be to protect itself from government regulation and harassment. But that doesn’t seem to be Starz’s reason.

There’s some hint in the story and press release that it wishes to influence Washington policy makers. Influence them how?

The announcing release said: “As the multichannel video industry continues to consolidate, lawmakers and regulators are increasingly focused on ensuring that the public interest in access to quality, diverse programming is preserved and promoted. Through outreach to government officials and communications within the Washington, DC market, Starz plans to work with the Glover Park Group to educate key stakeholders about the programmer’s outstanding array of shows, including its breakout hits ‘Power’ and ‘Survivor’s Remorse.’ Both shows have received strong viewership and critical acclaim driven by their appeal to the traditionally underserved African American audience.

It adds, “Ensuring that the public interest in access to quality, diverse programming is preserved and promoted.”

What?

That sounds a little odd. What business is it of the federal government what is available to the public on private TV networks?

Furthermore, what is it Washington’s concern that Starz seems to be promoting its programming aimed at “African-American” audiences? If Starz wants to promote the programs let it do it the traditional way — in the forum of public media.

I’m afraid that Starz is trying to use the power of the federal government to promote its programming and considering the debate over “set-top boxes,” likely trying to shoehorn its offerings into mandatory basic packages that the cable retailers offer. That is, forcing cable TV distributors to carry the package because of “diversity” requirements that certain people at the FCC want to mandate if (and when), the FCC decides to start regulating content. Don’t laugh, it’s already being proposed in the bowels of the agency and inside the Democratic party. Washington wants to control what you watch — and you can bet that it will be liberal propaganda (with diversity! i.e. a variety of approved skin colors not diversity in thought).

One more multiheaded point. The Glover Park Group is one of dozens similar groups in Washington that actually do nothing other than act as an interface between citizens and the evergrowing government. Not surprisingly the principals and employees of these groups are often ex-government employees and legislative aides and even legislators themselves who created these regulations in the first place. It’s a really lucrative gig — shaking down the rest of America.

They are parasites living off of your hard work while they force you to pay to jump through hoops they created.

You have to hire this mosquito to navigate the mosquito-infested swamp…

Not surprisingly this group, like most of them, is packed with liberals and it caters and contributes to the Dem party. So now, some of your Starz fee will be going into the pockets of the DNC. This is a self-perpetuating, cycle since the DNC and its supporters/enablers want to increase the government’s power and role in your life. It’s a downward cycle that isn’t going to stop itself.

How do we stop companies from needing to hire expensive Washington lobbyists?

One is that they need to stop hiring and promoting the liberals who want to make Washington the master of your business and your life. Secondly, they need to have a company policy to stay out of politics (many did but once liberals ascended the corporate ladder they changed that). Third, shareholders, owners, customers need to start pushing back. Fourth, the government and its tentacle agencies need to be trimmed and many even removed.

If Washington has less power, fewer people will want to go there and fewer of us will have to pay for it.

Impeach Obama?

Is there an honest Democrat? Is there a Democrat that would put the nation ahead of party gain?

I seriously doubt it. Joe Lieberman was probably the closest and he was almost thrown out of the party at the end for thinking too much on his own. (And he voted to save Bill Clinton during the impeachment.) I think he actually has left the party but maintains a Saturn-distance orbit.

I’d dare say that many of today’s Democrats view the party’s well-being as being the same as the nation’s.

I bring this up because I see a lot of people saying that the reason they support Donald Trump is that the Washington-based GOP establishment has failed them. An agreeable point I’ll happily acknowledge.

But a subset of this group takes it further. They complain that the GOP Congress should have impeached President Obama — and thus failing to do so has lost their support.

Sadly, these people simply do not understand how our political system works. One could argue that they shouldn’t need to understand how it works; that they have jobs and that they thought they had left it in supposedly good hands.

The simple fact is that impeachment of a sitting Democratic president is impossible and will be impossible as long as that party is in existence.

If Bill Clinton couldn’t be impeached with his unarguable list of crimes, there is no way the “first black” president is going to be impeached.

Remember, during the Clinton impeachment (1999) not a single Democratic senator voted guilty on either article (one was perjury and one was obstruction of justice). The only splits came from the Republican side where Slade Gorton, Richard Shelby (say it ain’t so, Richard!), Ted Stevens, Fred Thompson (say it ain’t so, Fred) and John Warner gave Clinton a pass on the perjury charge — after everyone knew that he had lied. Lincoln “The Original RINO” Chafee, Susan Collins, “Weasel” Jim Jeffords, Olympia Snowe and Arlen “Scottish Law” Specter actually voted with the Democrats to save Clinton on both articles.

The point here is that Democrats NEVER break rank. Republicans will break rank — or as some might put it, think for themselves. But Democrats all move in lock-step. They move as one – with one goal: consolidating power in Washington under a Democrat-controlled socialist totalitarian central government.

They are The Borg.

Not a single Democrat looked at the evidence collected in a secure room. There is a lot more to the Clinton impeachment than has been made public. All of it, I understand, quite damning to the Clinton case (notably more interns seduced). But when the DNC ordered the senators not to view the evidence, they turned the blind eye to justice, and American decency. They didn’t need to know anything because they already knew all they had to know — vote not guilty.

Not even putatively “conservative” Southern Democrats like John Breaux, Bob Graham, Ernest Hollings and Charles Robb were willing to go against the party though their constituents wanted them to. None of these gentlemen ever ran for elected office again (Breaux, Graham and Hollings had just been returned to office in 1998 so it made a great thumb in the eye of their constituents).

(And our American news media strangely lacks curiosity about this whole episode yet it can always summon the energy for, say, the ‘33 and 1/3 anniversary of Watergate!’)

If a sorry sack of dung like Bill Clinton couldn’t be impeached, in times when morality in America still had a few breaths left, how on Earth could Obama be impeached when the vast majority of Americans haven’t the faintest idea how he’s violated the Constitution and his oath.

As a party the Democrats would be endlessly sabotaging the whole process. Rich liberal-funded Astroturf groups would be demanding that Republicans “stop their assault on the Constitution” (in that amazing way these groups accuse their opponents of just the opposite of what they are actually doing). The media would be screaming racism, remember their amoral conduct during the Clinton years? Not a single Democrat would vote to impeach Obama, ever. That’s EVER.

He could eat a live baby on TV and they’d complain that Republicans were racist for complaining about that. He could surrender the United States to a troika of Iran, North Korean and Venezuela and the Democrats would defend him. The media would make excuses and do stories about Republican “obstruction of peace.” And a few Republicans would be more than squishy on the matter.

There is a difference between the parties. Democrats have a goal — an omnipotent/omnipresent federal government under party control.

Republicans really don’t have a unified goal. Some want a little more government, others want no more (but maybe it could work better) and some want less. The split makes it difficult to get things done and it makes it nearly impossible to check the Democrats’ never-ending press on government expansion. Essentially, Republicans are always on the defensive.

(On a side note, the Democrats are also at war with the Republican Party and seek its destruction. The Republicans, especially in Washington, don’t understand this and think the old days of national comity still exist.)

If your measure of Republican support is based on whether it would have or will impeach Obama then you are never going to be happy. It is not possible to make you happy. Trump won’t make you happy either.

Obama to the Set Top Box Rescue!

Riding in on his unicorn comes our glorious president, The One, to make sure that those evil cable companies… uh… are suitably understood to be evil (they make a profit!!!!!)… and, um… have to be taught a lesson… so something good here about your set top box. Maybe it can be free or subsidized or it can be made to provide every programming channel in the known universe for no extra cost! Something magical and free about the set top box is coming to you or someone, in the classic Obama fashion. They’ll figure out the details later — after some poll-testing.

Yes, Pres. Obama has once more inserted himself into an issue that should rightly be none of Washington’s concern. The attempt to regulate or control every flippin’ moment and activity of our lives continues unabated.

Our cable systems should be none of the FCC’s business. They do not take up public airwaves. They are privately funded and are private space. They are enabled by localities — cities, counties and state. That is where such proposals and debates need to take place — not between FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s ears and then become yet another cycle of bread and circuses for Obama to present to the peasant masses to win their votes and distract them from more important things.

It should also be noted that making the cable companies provide the option of using other companies’ set top boxes is like requiring GM to offer Ford engines as options for its cars and vice-versa.

Cable services are not a right, they are a voluntary service. How companies configure them is up to the company and its approach to the market. Consumers vote with their pocketbooks

I happen to like the idea of multiple box options but I see no mandating reason to make it a law or a regulation. I, honestly, don’t think Obama and Wheeler (and liberals in general — along with more than a few Republicans) understand that difference. Just because something might be good doesn’t mean it has to be required or governed by Washington.

It should also be noted that Google is for this mandate because they see a way to get their nose further into the tent and weaken their competitors, the big cable companies.

Here are two stories on the topic: “President Obama Backs Wheeler’s Set-Top Proposal, Big Time” and “D.C. Weighs In on President’s Set-Top Support.”

Lawfare

I’ve been meaning to get to this outrageous story — the war upon Exxon that is brewing from several state attorneys general. See this somewhat accurate story that exposes the coordination between the AGs and “environmental” special interest groups.

This coordination alone, while not unexpected, is unethical and in some cases illegal. Ironically, it fits the definition of the RICO prosecutorial tool that the AGs seek to use against the company.

The really outrageous part (that’s like saying ‘But a really tall Himalayan mountain is…’) is that these supposed legal officials want to prosecute the company for its opinions on Global Warming. There is nothing illegal about what one thinks of Global Warming (at least not yet) nor should there ever be. One should be able to believe the Earth is flat and not have to worry about prosecution.

These attorneys general are wasting taxpayer dollars, going after something that has nothing to do with law and they are abusing their offices for political ends. They are the ones that need to be prosecuted because what they are doing is against the law and it is against the spirit of the Constitution and America.

I also had the same feeling about the prosecutions of tobacco companies (and I loathed smoking). These companies can believe that smoking is healthy if they want. Such beliefs, erroneous of not, should never be against the law or left to the judgment of legal authorities.

These are just the early steps of what liberals wish to do to all of their political enemies and businesses that don’t do their bidding (and line the liberals’ pockets as well).

Power Line’s John Hinderaker has a couple of stories on this disgraceful behavior by elected officials — “A Conspiracy So Intense” and “The Great Free Speech Issue of Our Time.” Bonus absurdity is Steve Hayward’s “Green Weenie of the Century: The Rockefellers.” Watching “Rockefellers” abandon the business that made them wealthy is a madness beyond analogy. But fear not, they won’t be giving that money back but they will continue to deploy in the destructive antibusiness/anti-American manner they have been doing for decades. John D. Rockefeller continues to spin in his grave at what his heirs have done.
