MLB’s Fetish

I’ll get this out of the way because too many people will overreact and not read my whole piece.

Jackie Robinson seems like a nice guy, a genuinely good person, a solid, above-average player and I’m glad he got his opportunity to play in Major League Baseball. Baseball is the better for it.

Having said that, baseball would also be better to drop its bizarre obsession with Jackie Robinson; an obsession that gets worse each year.

This weekend “Jackie” has been the center of the MLB world (and for much of the preceding week as well). It’s the 70th anniversary of superhero Jackie Robinson “crossing the color barrier” and evicting the Klan or somebody or bad thoughts from baseball. Witnessing at the voluminous hagiography, this is now considered the single most important event in baseball history.

I was trying to watch the Atlanta-San Diego game on Fox Sports’ FS1 Saturday night but after a couple of innings the announcers turned away from covering the game to discuss Robinson and his “legacy.”

It’s slightly comedic for the announcer to ask various people how “Jackie personally affected them”? Asking people who weren’t even alive then and have no experience with actual racial discrimination rather than the whiff of an essence of a shadow of a reflection of an imputation of racism that exists in our world of “microggressions” is pure virtue signaling.

For those keeping score “micro” in the numerical sense means one-millionth. Pray, tell, libtards, how much of an aggression is one-millionth of an aggression?

But back to the game.

White media folks and an ex-baseball player (black) gushed about how they couldn’t be people today if Robinson hadn’t surmounted the “color barrier.” You see the same behavior at certain religious meetings, where people confess that they couldn’t get out of bed or function daily without help from their “Lord, Jesus Christ” or Mohammed.

I have yet to hear of any miracle cures attributed to him but give it another couple of years…

Eventually reliably white liberal Ken Rosenthal was brought in to officiate a discussion about how the number of black players was shockingly low and falling — from 9-10% a decade ago to 7-8% today.

How can this be when “Jackie” did so much?????!!!!! Don’t people appreciate what “Jackie” did for them?????!!!!! They are insulting “Jackie”!!!!!

Of course the liberal asserted that this was not the result of “choices” made by young black athletes, choosing to play other sports like basketball and football. No, there had to be a darker explanation. Something that could be used as a club to batter someone, something. There was a force unnamed yet existing and pulling strings causing this precipitous fall.

You see, “urban” kids were poor so therefore they turned away from baseball. That these very same kids somehow manage to play football or basketball and walk around with $100+ Air Jordan shoes, expensive clothes and smartphones didn’t come up. “Poverty” was the all-purpose answer and we should be ever-so-concerned and put a stop to it.

That actually poor kids in the Caribbean or Latin America somehow manage to get pretty good at baseball without special MLB-funded programs and U.S. taxpayer-supported facilities programs wasn’t explored. No, all agreed, the obvious solution was to spend more money on “urban” facilities and efforts to recruit young black players. That’s what Jackie would have wanted (though I doubt he had access to such facilities or efforts).

Interestingly, the discussion touched on Title IX’s effect upon college baseball. Title IX is the nefarious government regulation used by the Dept. of Education to drive down men’s sports programs at the college level while increasing the number women given sports-based scholarships. Even if they can’t find enough women, schools have to remove men to equalize the numbers. Many schools have shut down men’s teams in tennis, wrestling, track and field, etc., to placate their DOE bureaucratic masters. Some smaller college and less-successful college baseball teams have folded over the decades of Title IX’s existence. My undergrad alma mater SMU folded its team in the early 1980s in this manner.

Rosenthal insisted that somehow Title IX had only affected young “urban” players, preventing them from getting into college baseball programs, though it somehow had not affected others in, say, rural or suburban areas. Nor was it brought up that many players, especially very good ones, go straight from high school into the minor leagues, bypassing the college baseball chokepoint. They also managed to avoid the point that college baseball overall is seemingly more popular than ever before and awash in money.

The obvious solution would be to banish Title IX back to the Mordor from whence it came but none of those in the discussion dared go there. They knew Twitterstorm that would come forth and might find themselves sent to reeducation camps or even fired.

After entering the third inning of this sidebar I turned away and went elsewhere.

Jackie made numerous guest appearances in the several other games I caught over the weekend — some of which included mentioning other politically correct efforts for young girls, the “Trailblazer” program. Apparently there are not enough girls playing baseball or softball or something. At that point they might introduce some young girl or a female sideline reporter who’d assure us of the goodness of said program.

As part of the Robinson idolatry, every team in Major League Baseball has been forced to “retire” Jackie Robinson’s number 42 — even if Robinson didn’t play for them (he played for the Dodgers at the MLB level) or they weren’t in existence at the time. Compounding this, every player on every team in every game played on Saturday had to wear the number, 42. It was a bit confusing.

None of this is done for, say, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Nap Lajoie, Honus Wagner, Cy Young, Ted Williams, famed and far more accomplished players.

This reflects the liberal obsession with putting “racism” or skin color above all else. Such a side issue drives baseball rather than the playing of baseball itself.

That’s not right for baseball. It turns the sport into yet another political football. Liberals will politicize everything.

As some have wisely said, the way to put racism behind us is to no longer practice it; even if it is thought to be well-meant.

People living today are not part of the segregation era. Beyond serving as a warning of weakness and a history lesson, contemporaries should not burdened with carrying the guilt and sinful burdens of the past. People of today must be judge by what they do, today and in their lives not what others departed did in the past.

Jackie Robinson’s greatest accomplishment will be realized when he fades and is mostly remembered for his on the field performance: the winner of the first Rookie of the Year Award in 1947, being the 1949 National League MVP, having a stellar .311 career batting average, being at that time maybe the best base stealer since Ty Cobb (maybe better), a top-flight and underrated fielder and being one of the leading overall players in the late 1940s and early 1950s. That would be true equality.

That’s a fine and deserving place in history.

Dao Played the Race Card

As details emerge from the “Dr.” David Dao-United Airlines incident, it is quickly beginning to resemble an urban myth like “Hands up, don’t shoot!”

It turns out that when Dao was first asked to leave, steeped as he no doubt is in politically correct grievance-mongering, he immediately reached for the race card and asked if he was being asked to leave because he is of Asian descent.

When police officers arrived he challenged them to drag him out of the seat. They proceeded to do that while he squealed like a misbehaving child being sent to “timeout.”

My guess is that Dao is a long-time bully, playing on political correctness to get his way all the time. He’s not used to be told no and thus he reacted like a spoiled child.

This cannot stand. Terrorist planners watching this incident are taking notes and will see that the best way to get onboard, possibly unexamined, will be to send a minority who will play the race card if confronted. Or play the Islamophobia card.

If Dao triumphs, most gate and ground crew will simply avoid examining or confronting a minority for fear of their jobs and retribution from Twitter mobs and possibly PC enforcers in the government.

We have been warned.

The Susan Rice Story: Crickets and Squirrels

Last weekend it broke that former Obama apparatchik Susan Rice apparently spent 2016 and the transition period collecting classified intel on Donald Trump and his campaign/transition staffs. For exactly what purposes is unclear. Rice’s responses have been of the “You can’t prove it, I didn’t leak it and It wasn’t illegal” variety.

You might recall Ms. Rice, was the chief disinformation dispenser for the Benghazi cluster-eff.

This was a follow-on to the Evelyn Farkas fark-up, adding fuel to the fire that there was vast, Obama administration-wide conspiracy to gather and distribute classified surveillance intelligence that could be portrayed as embarrassing to Trump and his people.

An interesting sidelight about this bombshell of a story is its coverage or lack thereof. It broke last weekend yet, somehow, the major media, those great guys and gals that cover every utterance of Trump and so many Republicans, have helpfully relayed the “Trump is a Putin puppet” meme slavishly almost every hour of every day since it surfaced last year, have yet to get to the story, and I write this Thursday night.

Wait, I tell a lie. There have been a couple of odd stories about Susan Rice issuing mysterious denials concerning something that is entirely legal and hardly anything at all… The inestimable Mollie Hemingway has a great piece here.

The Farkas revelations too have been ignored.

Ahem…

Yeah, no media bias here… move along.

Obviously, the MSM is waiting for their cues from the DNC, via the New York Times, Washington Post and AP — all of which have turned a blind eye to a story that if it was committed by a Republican would be 24/7 news.

Eventually we’ll see a few dimwitted Dem parrots… er… politicians will chime in reinforcing the anointed meme. Clearly the DNC hasn’t figured out the angle yet.

Question, if the MSM doesn’t cover something, is it still news? (Their answer is ‘No.’)

NCAA Issues Hostage Demands

The NCAA, putatively a nonpartisan college athletics organization, has now demanded that the sate of North Carolina laws enact laws that the NCAA approves of rather than those legislated by the representatives of the citizens of the state or the NCAA will not allow any special NCAA events take place in the state, like, forevuh!

It is specifically trying to promote laws favorable to “transgender” people rather than the vast majority of citizens of the state. It is estimated that “trangendered” people make up less than 1% of the population. In other words 99+% are supposed to bend over backwards to accommodate a confused <1%.

North Carolina’s representatives in Washington need to move against the NCAA and remove its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status since it has become highly politically active, in opposition to its charter. Additionally, the state should move against the organization in civil courts.

The NCAA has become nothing more than a political activist organization and should be treated as such. It is an ally of the Democratic party.

Interestingly, the NCAA has been very circumspect on allowing “transgender” athletes, there are very few of them, to play on the teams they want to play on. Of course hypocrisy is the mark of the liberal.

I have been boycotting the NCAA for awhile now… And found I can live without it. And it also bleeds ESPN. Join me!

The Walking Dumb

Yup!

I have no idea what actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s politics, and they shouldn’t matter, but I hope he’s one of us or at least not being a liberal after this ridiculous incident — “‘Walking Dead’ Star on T-Shirt Hassle: ‘People Are Stupid.’

Ian Lucraft is a loser looking to be offended. Most people, probably 99% of them, are not going to have any idea what Lucraft’s whining about so how can the masses he alludes to be “offended?”

Can you be offended if you don’t realize that you’re supposed to be offended? Can you be offended if you aren’t, um, actually offended?

Buddhist koans have been built on less.

Perhaps Mr. Lucraft is angling to be Secretary of Offense (without portfolio).

Hey, Lucraft, you missed an offense — the differently-abled, legless division, are offended by the mention of “toe.” They are missing some of theirs. The trauma! The horror!

Mr. Lucraft, a lot of things offend me but I don’t demand that they be removed from the public. I understand that there might be people who like those things. I’m willing to take one for the team, obviously you aren’t. You demand that everyone kowtow to your tastes. (Ooooh, ‘kowtow,’ that’ll crank Lucraft’s Offense-O-Meter to 11).

You, sir, are a Nazi.

I’m offended by Lucraft’s stupidity. I guess it’s too much to hope he’ll be pulled.

What Part of “Illegal” Do They Not Understand?

The whole to-do over Pres. Trump’s order to curtail immigration from seven countries, six of them in chaos and one (Iran) a hostile enemy, has brought the immigration debate to a head.

One can argue whether the Trump “ban” will be effective — I think it would be more effective targeting those who transited through or visited those countries since they are terrorist havens rather than simply being born there.

That’s what we are supposed to do, discuss these things.

Instead we are treated to yet another liberal spazz attack. Yeah, that’s what we are seeing, liberals seem to be permanently stuck with the maturity level of a junior high spazz.

Liberals aren’t interested in debate because they might lose. They aren’t interested in a discussion or a conversation because they simply want to tell you what to do. They do not want give and take, other than they give it and you bend over and take it.

So we get this meltdown at airports and claims of international “chaos.” We’re told that so many companies are against this because it prevents them from getting recruits for jobs.

Now tell me, how many of these companies, many of them high tech, are actually getting recruits from say, Somalia? Libya? Syria? Iran? Yemen? Sudan? Iraq? I’d wager that number would be close to zero.

Several of those countries don’t even have running water, much less a tech industry. So what’s the fuss?

We have actual politicians, people supposedly familiar with something called “The Law,” pretending that Trump’s executive order is somehow out of the norm.

There was a time, within my lifetime, when people immigrating to the United States had to have sponsors. During that time people had to apply to come over. Some people actually got rejected because they were deemed undesirable. And taking people from hostile countries was limited to individual, special cases like Refuseniks — people who loved America, not hated it.

And we’re getting the tearful tales of “refugees” being prevented from just moving to the United States at their convenience. As if anyone, anywhere can decide just to come to the U.S. if their country goes down the crapper, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

So, in the eyes of these politicians, activists and would-be immigrants, a country doesn’t have the right to police its borders? That is some kind of insane concept never-before seen anywhere before?

That’s what the libtards want you to believe. Do you get the feeling we are being lied to by these liberals and their media auxiliaries?

The fact is that there are a number of immigration limitation statutes on the books. The Trump administration enforcement and institution of restrictions is not unusual in the history of this country. It’s only the slackness of immigration law enforcement and national generosity (not mutually exclusive) of the last couple of decades which has created an atmosphere of “open borders.”

Which leads me to the bizarre world of “illegal” immigration. The argument has gotten to the point where those illegally in this country have supporters who insist that the people who point out that the illegals are illegal are somehow wrong.

That these illegals are special, the truly law-abiding, while those pointing out their illegalness are the ones that are in the wrong.

The supporters often baldly insist that the “illegals” have done nothing wrong, preferring the euphemism “undocumented.”

Hey, bank robbery is an “undocumented” withdrawal… right?

The supporters, often in the form of nonprofit, tax-exempt groups, constantly invoke “families,” as if involving one’s family in a crime mitigates that crime.

Then there is a whole legal apparatus twisting laws so that people who are not citizens are allowed access to the benefits of citizenry, yet without any of the obligations and responsibilities. It’s actually kind of a sweet deal now that you think about it.

Just an example — drivers licenses for illegal aliens. People actually rationalize this bit of sophistry. Illegals can go to a DMV and get a drivers license. DMV people will turn in regular wanted criminals but illegals, they coddle and try to sign them up for other goodies, like voting. The DMV, as an arm of a state or county government, is obligated to aid in law enforcement but in our upside down world they feel free to ignore that particular law. But they’ll nail you to the wall if you are behind on child support or student loans or parking tickets…

The left’s desperation has bred this upside-down world — the illegal becomes the legal; those wanting enforcement of the law are deemed as the unlawful. Their aggressive vindictiveness is the product of their arrogance mixed with the weakness of their argument. The weaker the argument the more angry and violent they become.

When laws can no longer be carried out in their letter, they are lost.

When people are this delusional, it becomes impossible to have a rational discussion with them. They are lost.

What Would Loki Do?

Maybe you caught actor Tom Hiddleston’s act of pusillanimity at the recent Golden Globe Awards, or rather after them.

Hiddleston was being rewarded for his performance as the spy in John Le Carre’s “The Night Manager.” (Not a bad little mini series.) Hiddleston imparted the typical little tale of fame — that some aid workers in Sudan had said they had enjoyed his performance. It had brought a little joy into their generally hard life.

No sooner had those words passed his lips than the professionally aggrieved came out of the Twitter shadows and unleashed a hellstorm upon Hiddleston for daring to use such noble folks for cheap sentimentality.

Hiddleston is possibly better known to big screen audiences as Loki, from the Marvel Comics series. Loki is Thor’s ambitious and devious half-brother. He does not suffer fools gladly.

So the spectacle of Loki groveling before a bunch of hypersensitive offense seekers for what was merely an innocent comment is absurd.

Man, grow a set and tell these cretins to eff-off. That’s the least Loki would do.
