Nice Broadcast License You Have There…

Once again the chattering classes (and weak-kneed Republicans) are atwitter that Donald Trump has threatened to do something unseemly. This time to NBC, putatively for peddling some fake news. Basically he paraphrased the old Mafiosi threat, “Nice broadcast license you have there. It would be ashamed if something happened to it.”

The reaction has been essentially that Donald Trump is taking away NBC’s First Amendment rights, blah, blah, blah.

That’s not actually true.

It’s important to understand that NBC owns and operates several (lucrative)stations in the top TV markets (???). Therefore it has to maintain broadcast licenses in its own name.

However, most people watch NBC affiliates, that is, stations owned by others. These other owners are free to drop their affiliation, according to contracts, of course.

The simple fact is that Pres. Trump cannot take away the broadcast licenses of those stations owned by NBC, much less the affiliates.

The removal of those broadcast licenses would require the FCC to take action. Prompting the FCC to take action would not so much be at the behest of the president but rather complaints lodged against those stations by viewers.

Of course removing broadcast licenses en masse would be very unusual. So unusual that it is essentially inconceivable.

Pres. Trump knows this, I think.

I believe what he is up to is that he’s sending a signal.

Look at it another way. The most important and valuable asset NBC’s owned and operated stations have are the public airwaves they use (but don’t own). And as such users they are supposed to serve the public — all the public not just the Democratic Party and coastal elites. This little detail has been long forgotten or taken for granted.

Looking at it from a fresh angle — it’s unlikely that the news operations of those NBC stations have any Trump voters working at them, at least, not in the editorial end. I work in the media industry, though not mainstream news media. I can tell you from experience that the MSM does not hire Republicans or open conservatives. The books written on this phenomenon are now legion.

Considering that at least 1/3 of the country is made up of Trump voters, how is it in the public interest when a user of a public asset leans strongly against at least 1/3 of the country? One-third of the owners of those assets and has done so for decades?

The same is true of the other networks, save Fox.

If NBC were what it has long pretended to be, an unbiased transmitter of information, it would have plenty of Trump voters working at it. The same would be true of the other big networks. But that’s simply not the case. You’d think if they were honest they’d be embarrassed at being so one-sided.

But if they were little (or nothing) more than partisans they’d be satisfied at their domination and seeking to maintain it.

Something needs to be done about the broadcast media being little more than an information transmission belt for the Democratic Party.

It is important to understand that this only affects the publicly-owned airwaves. For cable news operations and newspapers, they are privately-owned, utilizing private networks and should be sheltered from government interference. Ironically, liberals want to bring cable operations under the eye of the FCC. That should be strongly resisted.

One final note, notice that Trump hasn’t threatened to use the government against newspapers — they don’t make use of publicly-owned assets either. His threats against them have been civil (libel) laws.

Scary Mooch

And we’re not talking about Michelle “Mooch” Obama, either!

I’m talking about Anthony “The Mooch” Scaramucci and his superstrange interaction with The New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza.

Why would he approach a sworn enemy of Republicans and Trump; a paid-in-full member of Journolist and a leading progressive/socialist/Democratic Party MSM plant for a bitch session? That’s like George Patton contacting, say, Gen. Wilhelm Keitel, to ask if anyone had leaked any secret Allied invasion plans to him then whine about Omar Bradley getting the D-Day job…

Did he really think Ryan Lizza was going to tell him who the leaker was? That shows spectacularly poor judgment and/or a naivete bordering on diehard belief in the Tooth Fairy.

Amateur hour. How could such a fool get the job?

I know there is a hardcore nut of conservatives cheering him on this bizarre behavior because they so want to see someone let-er rip.

But, folks, this wasn’t the case.

He just looked like a foolish drunk… and sucked up to the enemy. He gained nothing and looked the fool to everyone not a hardcore conservative.

And a lot of conservatives in Washington, D.C. (and there are a few) are appalled and now want to give The Mooch a wide berth. With his type of people it’s just a matter of time before you become a target. These guys always crash and burn, ultimately without any allies because they burned them all.

Speaking of crashing and burning, apparently The Mooch’s wife wants a divorce. I don’t know anything about these two beyond what I’ve read. They sound like another bizarro couple – similar to Roger and Ann Stone. You’ll know what I mean if you recognize those names.

Unless this guy actually learns on the job, it well not end in anything less than an embarrassment.

Trump Speaks to the Times

He’s bellowed about “Fake News” and pointed out the chief culprit, the New York Times. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, Donald Trump just sat down with a number of the Times’ henchmen and gave them an interview.

Even moreso he talked some dirt on supporters, notably Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump, sadly, does not seem to brook any disagreement with him; even from major supporters.

Trump doesn’t grasp that Sessions is an interface between Trump and Washington’s denizens. He’s the one telling those people that Trump isn’t that bad and that they should work with him.

Trump just played into the ogre stereotype Washingtonians and the New York to Boston corridor have of him.

What does Trump get from speaking to the Times? They are not going to let up on their undermining and peddling of leaks and lies. He’s a fool if he thinks they’ll change their stripes over this favor. Why give them more ammunition?

He should freeze them out. Render the millers of Fake News irrelevant. How better to make the meisters of Fake News obsolete than to ignore them? Now he’s just fed the trolls…

Now expect a sit-down with the WaPoo and then a round with CNN and the network news…

Mr. Trump, you’ve wanted your supporters to ignore the MSM and those attacking you, we’ve done that. Now we see you having lunch with them? What gives?

Pitching your disappointment in Sessions to members of the cabal seeking your scalp seems a little odd. It looks like what many expected of Trump – if elected he’d revert back to being a northeastern liberal and disappoint those who got him into the White House.

Trump demands loyalty yet seems to have little himself. Jeff Sessions’s endorsement of Donald Trump was the single most important endorsement Trump received. It was the one that made Trump palatable for many conservatives and a lot of Republican leaders and soldiers.

Had Sessions not endorsed him, he would not be president.

I have to say that I am a little disappointed in Trump over this move.

Reebok Lectures Trump

Athletic shoe maker has decided to attack Donald Trump for… get this… his compliment to the French first lady.

So the cretins… er… superior moral judges at Reebok felt the need to chide Trump. What is it with these people that they feel compelled to mouth off on things that aren’t their business?

For Pete’s sake, it was a harmless compliment, yet these school-marmish scolds can’t control themselves.

Are they in such an echo chamber that they cannot see they are angering a large portion of their market? For no reason whatsoever? The people who don’t like Trump aren’t going to dislike him more for this. Do the geniuses at Reebok think those folks will toss aside their Nikes and run out to buy a pair of Reeboks because of this?

Anybody who doesn’t have an opinion on the topic certainly isn’t going to be swayed by this petty silliness and the large group that voted for Trump are now annoyed and certainly not thinking fondly of Reebok.

Well, Reebok, you just lost another potential customer… but look on the bright side, you’ll always have your arrogance to keep you warm at night…

A Very Judicial Coup

We’ve now entered the Alice in Wonderland phase of America — specifically its judiciary arm.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has just handed down its decision concerning the Trump “Travel Ban.” Surprise! It affirmed the remarkably daft and erroneous lower court decision concluding that Pres. Trump did not have the authority to restrict immigration — especially immigration from places that produce dangerous people.

The statute in question is one of the more straightforward statutes out there. Not written in typical double-negative bureaucratese, it’s actually understandable to a human being (i.e. not a lawyer). Here’s the important bit.

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”

Pretty clearly the president can make most any decision he wants concerning immigration. If he does something squirrely, he can answer to Congress or the people.

However, the Ninth, according to this summary from Law Newz, decided that the president did not have exclusive domain over immigration. In fact, the court seems to have decided to insert itself immigration policy by dismissing the president’s reasons because, well, the court doesn’t approve of restricting immigration.

Well, glad that’s settled.

Actually, you would be hard-pressed to find a decision that was more perfectly wrong than this one. Almost every reason the court uses is spectacularly wrong and misunderstands the law and the Constitution.

For instance, the court decided that the president doesn’t have the power to proclaim the details of policy because he was discriminating against select people.

Wow, imagine that, a law that discriminates.

Oh, wait, that’s what laws do. They discriminate. Murder laws discriminate against murderers — crimping their style, so to say. Theft laws discriminate against thieves. Speed limits discriminate against speeders, etc. And immigration laws in the past discriminated against specific countries such as Eastern Bloc countries or limited the amount of immigrants from countries.

Funny how those laws work…

The court complained that the “travel ban” was breaking up families — declaring a new right that anyone related to an American may enter the country at will.

Now, a federal court ruled that the president doesn’t have the power that a statute clearly delegates to him. Well, then what’s the point of a president if courts can simply insert themselves into policy whenever they wish?

Maybe they think they should be in charge — unelected courts assuming a power they do not have in the Constitution. Judges that cannot be easily removed. Sitting in judgment of Congressionally passed laws, presidential Constitutional duties. No longer satisfied to be blindfolded and follow the law unequivocally, they now offer their thumbs up or thumbs down, like the Roman emperors of old; or maybe the Red Queen. The law means what she says it means.

It is time that these arrogant robed tyrants have their wings clipped. As the Virginia flag says, “Sic Semper Tyrannis.”

A Few Quick Thoughts on Comey

Now that James Comey’s “Historic” has turned out to be a dud for the liberals — at least until the networks, WaPo, NYT, AP, CNN managed to dig something up to distort or simply lie about — here are a few quick thoughts on Comey.

I was surprised that he used the phrase “independent DOJ and FBI.” He has a law degree from the reliable University of Chicago so he must know that the Department of Justice is part of the Executive branch not the Judicial Branch (though he wouldn’t be the first to make this mistake). Has he not been aware that he works for the President all these years. During the Obama administration he certainly seemed to know who his bosses were — Obama, Holder and Lynch.

Then there was the story making the rounds that Comey asked Attorney General Sessions not to be left alone with Trump. Imagine that, an employee asks his immediate supervisor that he not be left alone with the head of the company. Normally the supervisor would laugh.

But it’s sort of understandable. If you’re a company vet that’s built up a nice little fiefdom where you feel you are judge, jury and executioner, the last thing you want is for a new CEO to come in and shake things up. You damn sure don’t want to be in his office alone and having to explain yourself — especially if you aren’t getting your job done and are dragging the company down.

And that’s what Comey was doing. He knew there was nothing to the investigation, that Trump was not the target yet he did nothing to publicly correct the MSM/Democrat lie swarm. He could have but didn’t.

In fact, Comey looks to have been a leaker himself and aided his colleagues in leaking by providing them with material that could be distorted by media character assassins.

Sean Davis has a good summary at The Federalist.

Oops, spoke to soon. Around 9:30 the MSM began dropping stories that Comey testified that Trump fired him to undermine Comey’s investigation and that Trump was a liar. They’re all repeating the same meme, leaving out all the testimony contradicting their reporting for the last several months. It took them about six hours to get this coordinated disinformation campaign going. As of 10 p.m. the stories were popping up one by one at the major media outlets.

Down the Memory Hole She Went

That was quick. It seems that Sara Leigh “Reality” Winner has had her 15 minutes of fame in the eyes of our MSM news gatekeepers. Her story — leaking classified information to reporters — has been sent down Orwell’s Memory Hole after one day in the limelight because her identity was inconvenient for the Democratic Party/Socialist Media Alliance; much like the recent Bernie Sanders-loving Portland “White Supremacist” killer story was quickly euthenized. It’s so hard to keep memes alive when the facts run contrary to them. But our media is nothing if not diligent in watering the memes and keeping them on the front page and at the top of the hour — “trending” as the hipsters say. Another episode in Fake News.

Of course had this happened during the administration of King Barry I and Winner had leaked something embarrassing to The One, and assuming some MSM outlet had initially gone with it, the story would have quickly turned upon her as the MSM deployed dozens to dig up dirt on her (aided and abetted by the DNC and assorted Dem nonprofit activist groups). Reporters would be looking into her kindergarten records – all to cast aspersion on her. But it was different this time. She avoided becoming infamous but instead becomes a nonperson. It’s all still so Orwellian.

Before I let Winner fade away, I wanted to recommend Monica Showalter’s piece at The American Thinker — “Another Young Lefty Contracter Leaks Top Secrets.” Looking at the disaster train — Edward Snowden, Bradley “Chelsea” Manning, she accurately describes the upcoming egotistically clueless, often disturbed, Millennial generation and the depressing state of security clearance investigations.

Wednesday morning’s anti-Trump news was the “rift” between Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions or the perceived “rift” or the “rift” that was a few weeks old – this courtesy of the NYT, WaPo and AP – so it must be true.

Then came the “breaking announcement” of Trump’s nomination of a new FBI director which was immediately deemed suspicious and a diversion from James Comey’s upcoming testimony. Sen. Mark Warner immediately said that to back up the MSM.
Of course had Trump waited until after the Comey testimony the story would have been deemed suspicious and a diversion from the “historic” testimony of James Comey, blah, blah, blah. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t is how the media spins Trump in every story. The man could cure cancer and the media would whine he’s putting hardworking health care professionals, “historically” minorities, out of work…

That’s how “our” “news” gets made.
